About Eddie Othon
Educator, community builder, business developer, realtor, gardener โ Eddie Othon grew up in Sunnyside and never left. That's the point.
A Sunnyside Lifer
Eddie and Danielle Othon walked the halls of the Sunnyside Unified School District from 1st through 12th grade. Today, they teach your kids โ Eddie with 6th graders at Summit View, Danielle with 2nd graders at Craycroft Elementary. They didn't leave because they believe in this community with everything they have.
That belief shows up in the work: fighting for safe crosswalks so kids can walk to the park, lobbying Pima County to put up permanent soccer goals at Summit Park, planting heritage crops in school gardens that connect students to 4,000 years of desert farming history. And writing a community newsletter โ independent and free โ so none of this gets lost.
Outside of school, Eddie brings the same energy to business development, real estate, and the authentic family tradition of Nana Maria's award-winning tamales.
In the Classroom
Craycroft Elementary
Danielle teaches 2nd-grade Hawks โ building vocabulary, reading, and a love of learning from the very start. Recently hosted State Rep. Consuelo Hernandez for a lesson on "The Power of Words."
Summit View Elementary
Eddie teaches 6th graders โ including Holocaust education projects, ag-literacy, campus gardens, and leading the soccer Academy Model that just won a co-championship with 23 players.
Building the Neighborhood
Eddie doesn't believe education stops at the school gate. Here's where he's putting in the work right now:
Partnering with Pima County Health & Parks to install permanent soccer goal boxes at Summit Park, supporting Coach Jesus and the growing demand for 7โ9 year old players.
Advocating with Pima County Transportation for solar-powered flashing crosswalks (RRFBs) so students can safely walk between Summit View Elementary and Summit Park.
Campus gardens at both schools grow heritage crops tied to 4,000 years of Santa Cruz Valley farming โ in partnership with Mission Garden and Native Seeds/SEARCH.
Led a Holocaust education & community healing project that resulted in an Ash tree โ donated by Civano Nursery โ dedicated to a beloved 1st-grade student at Summit View campus.
An independent, free community newsletter covering schools, parks, safety, and local advocacy. By an educator, for the community.
Business, Real Estate & More
Eddie's classroom work is backed by real-world experience. His business development career has opened doors across US and Mexican markets โ particularly in defense exports โ bringing the same strategic thinking and relationship-building that makes him effective in the community.
As a licensed realtor, he helps Tucson families find homes with the patience and care of someone who knows these neighborhoods from the inside. And through Nana Maria's award-winning tamales, he carries on an authentic family tradition that's as much about community as it is about food.
